A friend of mine just discovered that he was a victim
of 419 for three years without realizing it! However, this is 419 with a twist and
not the usual kind of advance fee fraud.
Here is the gist. My friend (Nelson by name) met
Sharon, a young lady who told him she was in the university in the Eastern part
of the country but was about to drop out owing to financial difficulties. She
said her father was late and her mom, a primary school teacher, was finding it
difficult to pay her school fees and those of her siblings. Sharon then
appealed to Nelson to help her in paying her school fees and in return, she
would be his sugar baby and any time he wants sex, she would give it to him to
his satisfaction.
Nelson happens to be a businessman and also a Master
degree holder. He is someone who cherishes education and believes everyone is
entitled to a reasonable level of education. In the circumstances, he was
willing to help Sharon.
He paid her school fees for three good years only to
discover by sheer providence that Sharon is a fraud. She had never written
JAMB/UTME not to talk of getting admission into the university. Investigation
revealed that she dropped out from SS 2 in 2009 and had been “hustling” all
these years and ripping off “mugus”
like Nelson who fall victim to her feminine charms. In fact, her real name is
Ebere but she uses names like Sharon, Jessica, Jennifer, Cynthia, etc for her
many runs.
I couldn't help laughing when I heard the gist. I asked
Nelson if he had been sleeping with Sharon or not and he confirmed that he had
been sleeping with her.
“Case close,” I declared. “You were fucking her and she
was collecting the money for the fuck service she was rendering to you. There
is no breach of contract here as far as I can see.”
“Jerry how you go
talk like that?” Nelson queried. “This girl is a criminal! Don’t support
bad thing, please. Do you know how many men she must have done this to? She
took advantage of the fact that I’m an educated person who value education and
would not want to see somebody drop out of school just because of finance. I
did this thing genuinely to help her not because of sex. What is sex compared
to what I spent on her? There are girls everywhere I can meet any time for sex
and give them peanuts and they will be happy. I would not spend all that money
on her if it’s just because of sex… In fact, I don’t even think it’s up to
twenty times I slept with her for the whole of three years that I sponsored
her. She was supposed to be schooling in the East and I’m in Lagos. It’s only
when she comes to Lagos that I’m able to sleep with her. Meanwhile I was wiring
money to her all the time as if she was my daughter or sister. School fees,
accommodation, feeding, pocket money, everything. So this is not about sex. I
have the mind to help and this girl simply took me for a ride.”
I could see the point Nelson was making and I believed
him to a large extent, but I continued to play the devil’s advocate.
“I agreed that you wanted to help this girl but you
could have done so without attaching sex to it,’ I admonished. “Let me ask you, assuming she did not agree to
have sex with you, would you have continued to send money to her? Or if it was
a guy that pleaded with you in the same circumstances to help him, would you
have helped him?”
Believe you me; I got Nelson incensed with those
questions. As far as he was concerned, I was supporting criminality and he
walked out on me in anger.
Honestly, I’m still having a good laugh over the matter
but don’t get me wrong, I am not supporting Sharon or her likes who take
advantage of men’s emotional vulnerability to dupe them. Far from it. However,
the questions I asked Nelson are very pertinent and being the rhetorical
questions they were meant to be, he could not provide me with an answer. To
make matters worse, he’s a married man. Even if we agreed that a crime had been
committed, Nelson would not be able to lay a complaint against Sharon. Any
publicity to be given to the matter in the form of arrest, would expose his adulterous
trysts with Sharon and that is the last thing he wants for now.
Sharon is a criminal no doubt and she will meet her
Waterloo sooner than later. But can we say she took Nelson for a ride or Nelson
deserved what he got? What advice would you give Nelson in the circumstances?
Who fall your hand pass out of the two of them? Is this a
