May Day Rally: Nigerian sex workers demand equal rights; want prostitution legalized.

Sex workers in Lagos State yesterday took to the streets to participate in this year’s May Day rally like other workers. The Lagos State sex workers under the aegis of Ohotu Diamond Women Initiative carried a big banner, with the inscription: “Sex workers need rights, not rescue.”
Some of the sex workers in an exclusive chat with Best Lover at the Agege Stadium, venue of the May Day celebration in Lagos, called on the Federal and State governments to decriminalize sex work (prostitution) to curtail the prevailing situation in the country where sex workers’ rights are serially violated by law enforcement agents. They argued that decriminalizing sex work will help to curb crime, reduce the spread of HIV-AIDs infection and more importantly, help to boost government’s internally generated revenue as sex workers and their patrons and facilities from where they operate can be taxed as it is done in many developed nations.

Amnesty International Condemns Clampdown on Abuja Prostitutes.

Amnesty International (AI) has condemned the clampdown on sex workers by the police and the Federal Capital Territory authorities.
According to AI, the raids are discriminatory because only women are being arrested.
The organisation wrote on Twitter, “The raids and abuse targeted women, hence discriminatory and are gender-based violence. We are calling FCT and police authorities to investigate allegations of abuse of the women.
“Amnesty International is concerned by a spate of arrests and humiliation of women by FCT officials and the police, in some parts of Abuja. These arrests clearly show unacceptable deliberate targeting of women.”

I have sex every day & I use 35 sex styles. – Pastor Brags

“I have 35 sex styles; so you can’t be my wife and be saying you’re tired of having sex. No matter how tired you are, you must avail yourself to me anytime I want it.”
Those were the words of controversial Ghanaian pastor and general overseer of Heaven’s Gate Ministry, Prophet Kumchacha over the weekend as he talked about his sex life. The Man of God boasted that he makes love every day and on no account should his wife say she is not ready for him when he wants sex. According to the popular pastor who spoke on Joy television, the world would come to an end any day he fails to have sex!
You would recall that just few weeks earlier, Prophet Kumchacha made headlines when he declared that, “Women Who Scream ‘Jesus, Oh My God’ During Sex Will Go To Hell”

Task force officials slept with some of us –Abuja prostitutes reveal.

There was a mild-drama yesterday when the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Mobile Court sat at the Old Parade ground to try sex workers arrested at various night clubs and red light zones. The midnight raid carried out by a combined task force team of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEP) and the Social Development Secretariat (SDS) were said to have led to the arrest of over 30 sex workers and nude dancers. The drama started immediately when about eight of the accused who were arraigned alighted from the task force vehicle.
One of them, who later identified herself as Comfort Abbah, accused some men of the task force that arrested them of “having sex” with some of her colleagues and releasing them illegally. Abbah was aggrieved that only eight of over 30 people arrested were brought before the magistrate. She said: “We were more than 30 that were arrested by the task force. After having sex with some of the girls, the task force members have released them. We are here because nobody came to get us out.” However, the accused protest did not stop their arraignment.
After reading the charges of dancing naked and causing public nuisance which the prosecution counsel said violated Section 35 of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) Act, four of the accused pleaded guilty while four said they were not guilty. The magistrate, Mrs. Idayat Akanni, told the suspects who pleaded guilty that the offences attracted N5,000 fine or six months imprisonment. Following a plea for mercy by the accused, who pleaded guilty, the magistrate reduced the fine to N3,000 which they paid and regained their freedom.
Meanwhile, the Acting Secretary, Social Development Secretariat, Hajia Safiya Umar, though did not disclose what happened before some of the arrested sex workers were illegally released by members of the task force, she admitted that there was a compromise which must be investigated and punished. Umar noted that 32 girls were arrested at various red light zones on Friday by the task force during the operation which she led. She expressed shock that her staff illegally released 27 of those arrested without her approval. She said: “I must be honest with you; I have been very disappointed because we arrested 32 girls on Friday. My staff decided to release 27 of them without my knowledge. When I got wind of that, I ordered them to find and return the girls. Following that order, they went out on Saturday and arrested a different set of girls and mixed up with the remaining ones. “I don’t think I will be comfortable to be part of this exercise, if my staff will release the apprehended girls. I am going to address the issue and sanction those responsible.”

Nearly three-quarters of women are uncomfortable during sex, -- New study reveals.

Hundreds of women experience painful sex, new research has found.
According to a study of more than 1,200 UK adults carried out by Durex, sexual discomfort of varying degrees affects 73 per cent of women.
One third say the pain is hindering their libido and one in 10 say it’s having an adverse effect on their relationship with their sexual partner.
The findings also reveal that nine per cent of women have faked an orgasm with a partner and a further 15 per cent have purposefully hurried their partner towards climax due to feeling uncomfortable.
Despite these figures, just 57 per cent of men surveyed said they've noticed a female partner feeling uncomfortable during sex

One of the primary causes of sexual discomfort for women is vaginal dryness, which Dr Moses Batwala, consultant gynaecologist at The Evewell Clinic in London, says affects 20 to 40 per cent of women aged 17 to 50.
Speaking to The Independent, Batwala explains dryness occurs when there are decreased levels of oestrogen in a woman's body and can lead to itchiness, irritation and decreased elasticity, all of which can render sex uncomfortable.
"Many women are embarrassed to talk about vaginal dryness, even with their partners," he says. "Nor do they seek help about vaginal dryness yet it is a very common symptom and cause of morbidity and there is a lot of help and options at hand."
Consultant gynaecologist Amanda Tozer adds that this is condition most commonly experienced by menopausal women.
"This is because oestrogen is no longer produced by the ovaries of women when they reach the menopause," she tells The Independent.
Younger women may also experience dryness due to hormonal reasons, says Mr Narendra Pisal, consultant gynaecologist at London Gynaecology. He explaine these may include hormonal changes due to breastfeeding or a progesterone-only contraception. But the study found that most women experiencing dryness (42 per cent) thought it meant they weren't "turned on enough".
As for treatments, Tozer says one of the simplest solutions is to use either water or oil-based lubricants during sex.
According to Durex's research, just one third of women would use lubricants with a partner despite the fact that nine in 10 said that sex felt better when they used them.
Other reasons for painful sex cited by female respondents in Durex's survey include the sex position (42 per cent) and blaming their partner for "not knowing how to pleasure them".
Sex and relationships vlogger and writer Hannah Witton explains that the research sheds a light on the need for women to be honest about what is and isn't enjoyable during sex.
"Sex can be uncomfortable, and that’s totally normal, but it’s just about being confident enough to find solutions that work for you as an individual," she tells The Independent.
"If I experience any discomfort or pain during sex, I would certainly pause and use lube."
But Chidera Eggerue, blogger and founder of the #SaggyBoobsMatter movement, tells The Independent that Durex's findings are reflective of a systemic societal problem about gender dynamics.
“When it comes to intimacy between men and women, the goal for the latter is to be as exciting as possible in order to impress your partner. But the sad and ironic thing is the guy is doing nothing to impress you because he’s been socialised to put himself first," she says.
“So it completely makes sense that in a situation where a woman and a man have sex, there is a strong likelihood that she will compromise her needs.”
The 24-year-old added that this may explain why a large number of men said they haven’t noticed a female partner experiencing discomfort during sex.
In terms of what can be done to combat the issue, Eggerue explains that improving sex education in schools is vital, but that it’s not enough to really change the behavioural attitudes between men and women with regards to sex.
“We need to extend beyond the conversation regarding sex and involve autonomy,” she said.
“Women need to feel comfortable taking control of their bodies and putting their wellbeing first.”

ASABA SEX MARKET.

Asaba the capital of oil-rich Delta State, is one of the fastest growing cities in Nigeria. Luxury hotels, palatial mansions and shopping malls dot the landscape of the city, advertising its status as the capital of one of Nigeria’s leading oil-bearing states.
However, like most cities the world over, Asaba has its fair share of slums and shantytowns- the most notable being Cable Point. And on the fringes of Cable Point is the popular Abraka Market sometimes referred to as Hausa Market because of the huge number of Hausa-Fulani and other people from the northern parts of Nigeria that ply their wares in the market.
“Abraka Market” is not just a market but a sprawling ghetto where several hundreds of people, mostly poor and less privileged live.  The market proper, is what a casual and first time visitor sees when he walks into Abraka Market. It is mainly a foodstuff market with mostly Hausa and Igbo traders selling rice, beans, yams, onions, fruits, vegetable, etc. But when you walk deeper into the market, you stumble into the residential side of Abraka Market and it is a real ghetto in every sense of it.
The houses, arranged in rows after rows, are mostly one-room shacks constructed with cheap corrugated metal, plywood and tarpaulin. Heavily crowded, dirty and lacking in the most basic amenities, this ghetto is home to perhaps some of the happiest Nigerians who despite the palpable poverty that they live in, never fail to “bubble.” The dozens of drinking joints, rundown restaurants, viewing centres, betting joints that dot the place, are open to business almost 24/7.
A melting pot of sort, you will find Nigerians from across the country but particularly from the Middle Belt well represented here. It is a place where any homeless person from any part of the country can easily get a roof over his head at least for a night.
However, one will not fail to notice that the Hausa-Fulani have their own quarters in the ghetto. Their own section is rather reserved and restricted with a part of it housing married women only and a no-go-area to outsiders. You will also not find drinking joints on this side of the ghetto.
But the larger and bubbling part of Abraka Market is deeper inside and the population here is mixed: Middle Belters, Igbos, Yorubas, Niger-Deltans, etc. This is the real Sodom where you will encounter the drinking joints, viewing centres and indeed one of the biggest sex market in Nigeria. Cheap prostitutes in their dozens living in hole-sized rooms in several rows facing each other, can be seen soliciting customers even in the early hours of the morning. And by night, it is one of the hottest and raunchiest red-light districts in Nigeria where booze, fuck and merriment reign supreme.
The bulk of the prostitutes are from the Middle Belt particular Benue State. In fact any visitor will easily hear Tivi Language being spoken by many of the call girls all over the place. Recent security challenges in the Benue Valley is believed to have swelled the population of Benue girls here as more and more people flee the region to other places for safety and survival.
Sex here is cheap and as low as N500 or less for short time.  But the girls have classes. Girls from the South-East who seem cleaner, prettier and more enlightened, charge higher than the Middle Belt girls do. Ditto for Akwa-Cross and the few Edo-Delta girls here. There is indeed some sort of distrust among the girls as verified by our reporter, with the latter accusing Middle Belt girls (Benue, Plateau, Nasarawa, etc) of “spoiling market,” with low charges.
Nevertheless, there are enough customers to go round. The Abraka Market serves as a terminal-point for trucks bringing foodstuffs from the North to the Delta side of the South-South. The implication is that dozens of truck drivers and their “motor boys” converge on the market every day. They form the bulk of the patrons of the Abraka Market’s red-light district. Some of the call girls confided in our reporter that the lorry drivers pay good money especially when they meet a girl they like and who gives them what they want.
Amaka, an Igbo call girl who spoke with our correspondent said she is not bothered by the low charges by some girls because she has her special customers who are mainly lorry drivers and they pay her well because she satisfies them and give them what they like. Most of the truck drivers we learnt, used to sleep overnight with their favourite call girls and some of them can pay as much as ten to fifteen thousand naira to pass the night and get fucked to their satisfaction. “Those wey dey collect five hundred naira, make dem dey collect,” Amaka fumed. “I no care becos I get my customers wey I dey target. Dem dey pay me wetin I want and I dey satisfy dem,” she stated.
Be informed also that Hausa ladies are in prostitution too in the Abraka Market and they have their own section. Our investigation reveals that they are mostly widows, divorcees or runaway housewives who came down South to seek greener pastures. Interestingly, most of their patrons are Hausa-Fulani men especially the young, single and ubiquitous ones doing menial jobs in town or selling one stuff or the other on wheelbarrows.
Patrons of the Abraka sex market equally come from inside Asaba and Onitsha as well. Separated only by the River Niger, the two cities of Onitsha and Asaba fondly called the twin cities, are quite close and it takes just one hundred or at most two hundred naira to take a bus from Bridge Head/Upper Iweka in Onitsha to Abraka Market in Asaba. Many patrons simply jump into a bus in Onitsha and in few minutes, they are at the Abraka Market in Asaba to take advantage of the cheap sex and the seclusion of the place to have a quick fuck and dash back to Onitsha.
Despite the odd-mix of people and the many contradictions of the Abraka sex market, residents vow that it is a peaceful place where people cohabit and do their own thing. For a ghetto of this size, crime is low as attested to by law enforcement officers. Perhaps because of the low crime rate, visits and raids by law enforcement officers are rare. Both patrons and prostitutes say there is little or no police harassment nor extortion which is one of the things that they like about the place. At the front of the Abraka Market however, a police armored vehicle and patrol van are always stationed there in an apparent show of police physical presence and perhaps to swiftly quell any ugly incident that could arise especially one bothering on inter-ethnic clashes.
All told, this sex market that is bigger than the Mabushi sex market in Abuja, is worth visiting if not to have fun, at least for sightseeing. It is another world altogether.

UPDATE:
In May 2020, the Delta State Government demolished the Abraka Market and effectively putting an end to the Asaba Sex Market. https://www.deltastate.gov.ng/why-we-demolished-abraka-market-okowa/

I Caught My Husband Having Sex with My Best Friend —Wife

An estranged Ibadan housewife, Yinka Adaramola has dragged her husband, Bode Adaramola before the Grade C Customary Court, Idi-Ape, Ibadan, Oyo State for the dissolution of their marriage, claiming that her husband is an incurable flirt and she caught him once banging her best friend in their house.
“My lord I am fed up with our marriage,” Yinka told the court during her examination in chief. “My husband has ceased to give me rest of mind. He has many of lovers he sleeps with. I once caught him and my best friend having sex in our house. He apologized but has not ceased from seeing the woman in question.
“He is always accusing me of having an affair with his pastor, which is not true. His pastor approached me for friendship, but I refused him. I reported him to my husband but rather than trust me, he started taunting me with it.
“My lord, my mind is made up, please separate us,” she pleaded.
Her husband, Bode Adaramola however did not oppose the prayer for dissolution of the marriage. He urged the court to dissolve the marriage saying he was fed up with his wife. Hear him:
“My lord, I’m also fed up with the marriage. My wife is not giving me rest of mind. She is a flirt. She had an affair with my pastor and I had to move in with her friend when I noticed she wasn’t interested in me anymore. More so, she is not satisfying me as she should.
“She has packed out of my house and has turned my children against me.”
The court in its judgment dissolved the marriage entered into under native law and custom, 32 years ago.
